Berlin Christmas Markets
In December the streets and buildings in Berlin get transformed into a beautifully decorated winter scene with lots of glitter and glam. If walking the streets or visiting the shops don’t quite get you into the Christmas spirit make sure to visit one of Berlin’s many Christmas markets as they are bound to put you in the right spirit with everything from arts and crafts and decorative gifts to tasty food and sweet delicacies. Berlin has more than 50 Christmas markets all over the city most beginning at the end of November and running throughout the whole of the December month. What ever your need is, you will be sure to find it at one of the many markets and here is just a few examples:
Christmas Magic at Gendarmenmarkt (Mitte)
This beautiful Christmas market with its central location close to Unter den Linden has entertainment for the whole family and offers everything you could dream of. It is situated on one of the most beautiful squares in Europe and offers everything from children’s rides, art exhibitions and handmade goods made of international craftsmen to stage shows with fire-swallowers, jugglers, acrobats, choirs and dance troupes. If you get hungry you will be sure to get your needs satisfied here as the Christmas Magic market not only offers the traditional seasonal specialities, but also more fine dining menu selections made by top chefs.
Winterwelt at Potsdamerplatz and Christmas market in Sony Centre (Mitte)
At the Winter Magic Christmas market at Potsdamerplatz you will find a little piece of Austria in the form of a toboggan run and lots of stalls selling traditional Austrian dishes and beer. When you have had your share of Austrian fun make sure you visit the Christmas market in the nearby Sony Centre where you will find lots of stalls with Christmas gifts, art and crafts, savoury foods and last but definitely not least; curling for the whole family. So head out for a fun family day at Potsdamerplatz and the Sony centre.
Christmas market at Gedächtniskirche

For those who like a combination of the festivities you will find it here at this Christmas market. For those interterested, the Gedächtniskirche market offers some fantastic shopping and great nightlife. The market is located at the beginning of the Kurfurstendamm which is Berlin’s world famous shopping street with shops, cafes, restaurants and nightclubs for every taste and has more than 100 stalls with a variety of gift ideas, Christmas decorations, toys and beautiful accessories. And if you need a break from shopping make sure to stop and try one of the many Christmas delights like a glass of mulled wine or punch, candied fruits or a grilled sausage whilst you admire the beautifully decorated tree in the heart of the market right next to the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.

The Chanukkah Market is celebrating the traditions of Hanukkah and Christmas and is situated at the Jewish Museum where the new glass courtyard has been beautifully illuminated for the occasion. The market offers arts and crafts, decorative gifts, literature and lovely food all belonging to the customs and traditions of Hanukkah and Christmas.
Also worth mentioning is the Advent market at Kollwitzplatz (Prenzlauer Berg) which is an ecological Christmas market with Christmas delights and gift ideas as well as the Lucia Christmas market at Kulturbrauerei also in Prenzlauer Berg which is a romantic, family-friendly market with a great children’s programme.
If you are in the city centre you are spoilt for choice. You can for example visit the Berlin Christmas market (Schlossplatz, Mitte) where the whole family is invited to enjoy themselves. You can find a fairyland, lots of rides for the children, a 40-metre-high Ferris wheel as well as more than 150 Christmas stalls with everything from arts and crafts to tasty food and last but not least you will get the chance to meet Santa Claus every day at this market. Also located in Mitte between the TV tower and Rotem Rathaus (the city hall) is Weihnachtsmeile at Rathausstraße which offers lots of different Christmas products and traditional culinary delights. Still in Mitte you can also visit the Christmas market at Alexanderplatz which has a great variety of different artisans, festive illuminations, rides for the children and a beautiful Christmas tree or the Christmas market at Opernpalais Unter den Linden which is a nostalgic market with arts and crafts.
